Rebel Talk Launch Event
10th November 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Rebel Talk is an anthology of climate crisis poems by people in Britain and several other countries; it is a fundraiser for Extinction Rebellion Oxford. The powerful contemporary design was created by a team of students at Oxford Brookes. It is sold for £10 at Extinction Rebellion and other climate campaign events, and at independent bookshops, distributed by Hive.co.uk. It will also be sold directly at Hive.
On Wednesday 10th November at 18:30 in Common Ground, Little Clarendon St, Oxford, Oxfordshire poets will read their poems from Rebel Talk. Please sign up for a free ticket on Eventbrite:
In their various ways, the poems in Rebel Talk all seek to show just what, uniquely, these times are, and why it is once again so urgent that creative artists respond to the challenges they pose…
… This book is not the last word. Why would it want to be? It is an invitation to read, to pass on whatever moves you, to test your life against these other voices, and to respond – in words, in action, in contemplation or imagination. Poetry opens a door, but where that door leads… that will be up to you.
from the Foreword by Philip Gross
Rebel Talk was created by people active in the movement to demand urgent action on climate change. It continues the cultural rebellion against governments and corporations who are failing to act swiftly and effectively to save humanity from the disaster we have created for ourselves and future generations. The powerful design incorporates images from waste-making, such as roller cleaning, which can arise from certain print processes. Poets from across the world speak from their hearts to ours of their loss, grief, fear, anger, struggle and hope as we confront the growing possibility that life on earth will be extinguished.
