Singing and outreach at Westgate Centre

29th November 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Friday 29th is Black Friday, and the Westgate will be thronged with after-work shoppers. We plan to bring our very own Oxford version of the ‘glorious rabble’ into the shopping centre for an impromptu singing ‘flashmob’.

We will be singing to draw shoppers attention to the Climate Emergency, and leafleting / talking to shoppers about XR, our demands and how to get involved. This will NOT be about ‘blaming and shaming’ individual shoppers or telling people not to shop – we need system change, not just individual behaviour change. We will need people to sing AND people to hand out leaflets and chat to shoppers.

If you would like to join the singing, we will be having a rehearsal at East Oxford Community Centre next Wednesday (20th), from 8.30pm. All are welcome, and no previous experience is required! The songs / chants are easy to learn and people will be on hand to teach them to us. The more people come and sing, the more powerful and dramatic the action will be.

We also need people to hand out leaflets and chat to shoppers from 4pm (when XR Youth have an action in the Westgate) right through to 6.30pm. If you can help for an hour or two, please either contact the outreach working group (xroxfordoutreach@gmail.com) OR just show up on the day.

Update 2019-11-27: Outreach will be from 4-6.30, and singing from 5.30-6.30.
