XR DNA: Our story, strategy, values & structure

This is a packed day to explore in detail what makes XR different, what makes it tick, to share the Self Organising System theory of XR, to explore ideas for mobilising local group members, and to share and practice tools for effective meetings and decision-making in your groups. You will learn loads, connect with some great people, and leave with renewed energy for XR and the part that you play. Not to be missed!

Liquid refreshments will be available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch or you can buy lunch locally. Fully supervised children are welcome.

XR Oxford New Rebels Meeting (1st Oct)

This meeting is geared towards people who have recently joined XRO, and want to:

  • meet other rebels, old and new
  • find out how they can get more involved
  • develop affinity groups
  • and build their capacity for action

The first part of the meeting will include short talks from people who have been involved in Non-Violent Direct Actions. There will then be time to meet and chat with other rebels, followed by some facilitated small group work on the topics described above.

If you haven’t managed to attend one of our Introduction to XR sessions yet, we’d recommend going to one of these first if you can – there will be one on 28 September at the Arts-Science Extravaganza at the Oxford Museum of Natural History. But it’s not compulsory, and we hope that anyone would get something out of this event.

XR Oxford New Members Induction (1st Sept)

Anyone who is interested in Extinction Rebellion is very welcome at this
session! This session is a chance to find out what we are all about and how
we work – whether you are definitely keen to get involved or just
interested to hear more.

We will take you through the demands and principles of Extinction
Rebellion, and explain about non violent direct action (NVDA). We’ll tell
you how Extinction Rebellion Oxford is organised, and all the ways that you
can get involved if you’d like to.

This is for all interested in finding out about getting involved in XR –
but we are making sure it’s particularly available to families and carers,
so please feel free to bring along little rebels. They are welcome to join
in with the conversations, and we’ll also make a space for them outside of
the groups to occupy themselves with any activities you want to bring along
(reading, colouring etc). Although some topics will touch on the climate
emergency, the vast majority of the session is more about ways forward and
taking action, than anything that might be distressing for children. You
know your own child and what level of conversation they will probably be
comfortable with. However, if you have any concerns about this please do
message us beforehand.

If you are bringing along a child or young person, if you could please let
us know their age that would be really helpful, so that we can plan ahead
in terms of space allocation.

The venue is still being decided, but it’ll be within easy reach of central
Oxford (within the ring road).
